Pharmacological Action:
Loserol properties are attributed to its content of guggulsterone. Loserol reduces cholesterol biosynthesis in liver by inhibition of Hydroxy Methyl Glutaryl CoA reductase enzyme. Recent studies have shown that guggulsterone can act as an antagonist ligand for farnesoid X receptor (FXR), a nuclear hormone receptor that control the negative feedback inhibition of bile acid synthesis from cholesterol, enhancing the rate of cholesterol excretion in bile and reducing LDL cholesterol levels in blood by stimulating LDL receptor binding activity in liver membrane. Guggulsterones have antioxidant properties preventing LDL cholesterol from being oxidized, significantly decreasing lipid peroxides and protect against atherosclerosis. |
